If you’re interested in a fast, fair and fun transition to a zero emissions community we’d love to have you as a member! Your membership questions are answered below, but if you’re ready to sign up you can click here to jump straight to the membership form.
Why join as a member?
- Support the work of your local climate organisation
- Vote on committee membership and motions at the Annual General Meeting
- Join the committee if you’re keen to get involved with running the organisation
How much does membership cost?
Standard membership is $25 per year. Concessional memberships ($5) are available for First Nations people, full time students and people on low incomes. We also offer a ‘keen supporter’ option with a $50 annual fee for those who are keen to show their support and accelerate our work. All types of membership have equal rights in the organisation.
How are membership fees used?
Membership fees help cover the costs of running an organisation and help us take action in the community. Our expenses this year are likely to include:
- Membership fees for Climate Action Network Australia and other relevant networks
- Venue hire and insurance for Newtown Climate meetings and events
- Printing costs for posters, stickers etc.
- Web hosting
- Registration fees and other government charges
Are membership fees tax deductible?
Not yet, sorry. We hope to be able to take tax deductible donations and membership fees in future, but there is significant additional admin involved and we need to grow our group first.
When are membership fees due?
On joining, and then on 1 July each year.
Where can I find the constitution?
At this link.
Can I make a financial contribution without becoming a member?
Absolutely! Please visit our crowdfunding page at https://www.givenow.com.au/newtownclimate.
How else can I get involved?
We’re always keen to hear from people who want to get involved, especially if you’re able to commit a couple of hours (or more) each week. We have a long list of projects and campaigns that you might want to get involved with, or we can work together to find something that aligns with your skills and interests. We’re always keen to hear new ideas and to support community projects that align with our vision of a fast, fair and fun transition to a zero emissions community.
